AI Practice Assignment Preview: Chapter 2 – Evaluating AI Tools for Business Communication
This week’s assignment focuses on identifying and evaluating AI tools used in business communication. Students will explore how tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Perplexity can support professional messaging—and where they might fall short. You will identify key AI tools, evaluate their effectiveness in business communication tasks, and practice prompt engineering through critique, revision, and improvement of AI-generated content.
Focus: This week, we’re leveling up your business communication game with the help of AI. But here’s the kicker: great communication still starts with you. AI is a tool—not a brain replacement. (Yet.) Let’s explore how to use it wisely, efficiently, and professionally—without letting the robots steal your shine.
- Using a guided template in Canvas, students will:
- Explore AI Tool Capabilities
Students will prompt an AI tool to explain how various platforms support business communication. They’ll critique the response for clarity, tone, and completeness. - Analyze a Real-World Artifact
Students will select a humorous or problematic AI-generated message (e.g., overly formal, jargon-heavy, or emotionally tone-deaf) and prompt AI to revise it. They’ll evaluate the suggestions and reflect on their usefulness. - Refine the AI Output
Using Track Changes, students will edit the AI’s revision to better align with professional standards and chapter principles. A short reflection will connect their edits to real-world communication challenges.
