Try it Out – Chapter 6

Try it Out

🔐 Integrity Tip:

AI doesn’t know your team’s emotions or dynamics. When using AI to draft feedback, you are responsible for making sure the tone matches the relationship. Use the tool, but don’t lose your humanity.

🔮Future Connection:

You’ll revisit feedback in Chapter 11 on teamwork and collaboration—especially how trust and psychological safety shape communication. This assignment gives you a foundation for giving and receiving feedback that actually helps people grow (not groan).

Each chapter, has a corresponding AI-supported learning activity designed to help you engage more deeply with the concepts. These assignments are hosted in Canvas and follow a structured, iterative process using a provided template. You’ll use AI tools to:

  • Explore and clarify key ideas from the chapter
  • Practice applying concepts to real-world or professional scenarios
  • Reflect on your learning and refine your understanding through guided prompts

This assignment is an opportunity to build your confidence in using AI as a collaborative learning partner. It will help you develop critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy skills essential for success in modern business environments.

👉 To begin, go to the corresponding module in Canvas and open the “Weekly AI Assignment” for this chapter.

  • AI Practice Assignment Preview: Chapter 6 – Delivering Feedback and Having Difficult Conversations

This week’s assignment focuses on using AI to help navigate one of the trickiest parts of professional communication: giving and receiving feedback. Students will apply models like SBI (Situation–Behavior–Impact) and DESC (Describe–Express–Specify–Consequences) to revise blunt or unhelpful feedback into messages that are clear, respectful, and solution-oriented.

    Learning Objective

    Students will:

    • Use AI to revise and improve feedback messages
    • Apply the SBI and DESC models to structure difficult conversations
    • Practice empathy, clarity, and professionalism in workplace communication

    Assignment Flow

    1. Explore Feedback Models with AI
Students will prompt an AI tool to explain best practices for giving constructive feedback, including the SBI and DESC models. They’ll critique the AI’s explanation for tone, completeness, and alignment with chapter strategies.
    2. Revise a Feedback Statement
Students will choose a blunt or emotionally charged feedback message and prompt AI to revise it using one of the models. They’ll evaluate the AI’s suggestions and reflect on what was effective—and what still needed human insight.
    3. Write a Human Response
Using Track Changes, students will refine the AI-generated message to ensure it’s professional, empathetic, and actionable. A short reflection will connect their edits to real-world leadership or team communication scenarios.
