Try it Out – Chapter 7

Try it Out

🔐 Integrity Tip:

Use real job postings—but keep your own contact details private. Don’t upload a real resume to public AI tools. Instead, focus on how to write better and why it matters.

🔮Future Connection:

Later, in Chapters 12 and 14, you’ll build on these storytelling and alignment skills to write recommendations, proposals, and professional self-assessments. This job-focused assignment is your chance to build a communication strategy you’ll use for years.

Each chapter, has a corresponding AI-supported learning activity designed to help you engage more deeply with the concepts. These assignments are hosted in Canvas and follow a structured, iterative process using a provided template. You’ll use AI tools to:

  • Explore and clarify key ideas from the chapter
  • Practice applying concepts to real-world or professional scenarios
  • Reflect on your learning and refine your understanding through guided prompts

This assignment is an opportunity to build your confidence in using AI as a collaborative learning partner. It will help you develop critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy skills essential for success in modern business environments.

👉 To begin, go to the corresponding module in Canvas and open the “Weekly AI Assignment” for this chapter.

  • AI Practice Assignment Preview: Chapter 7 – Getting a Job

This week’s assignment focuses on using AI to strategically tailor job application materials. Students will analyze real-world job postings, extract relevant keywords, and revise sample resume lines to better align with hiring expectations and applicant tracking systems (ATS).

    Learning Objective

    Students will:

    • Use AI to extract keywords and skills from job descriptions
    • Revise resume content to align with professional standards and job targets
    • Practice strategic communication for career readiness

    Assignment Flow

    1. Keyword Strategy from a Real Job Posting
Students will find a real job listing and prompt AI to identify the top keywords and skills needed for that role. They’ll reflect on which keywords match their current strengths and which areas need development.
    2. Revise Resume Lines for Impact
Students will revise generic resume statements using AI, incorporating keywords, measurable outcomes, and strong action verbs. They’ll evaluate the AI’s suggestions and refine them for clarity and professionalism.
    3. Polish the Final Version with Human Insight
Using Track Changes, students will edit the AI-generated resume bullets to improve tone, specificity, and alignment with chapter strategies. A short reflection will connect their edits to real-world job application scenarios.
