Try it Out – Chapter 9

Try it Out

🔐 Integrity Tip:

If you’re using slides or infographics from a real organization or past presentation, make sure to anonymize data and remove identifying visuals unless you have permission. Respect design copyrights and logos too!

🔮Future Connection:

Remember the presentation arc from Chapter 5? Now, we’re layering in how your visuals support that story—and what your body is doing while you’re talking. Later, in Chapter 10, you’ll adapt these same principles for virtual communication, where eye contact becomes webcam placement and infographics fight for attention with cat filters.

Each chapter, has a corresponding AI-supported learning activity designed to help you engage more deeply with the concepts. These assignments are hosted in Canvas and follow a structured, iterative process using a provided template. You’ll use AI tools to:

  • Explore and clarify key ideas from the chapter
  • Practice applying concepts to real-world or professional scenarios
  • Reflect on your learning and refine your understanding through guided prompts

This assignment is an opportunity to build your confidence in using AI as a collaborative learning partner. It will help you develop critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy skills essential for success in modern business environments.

  • AI Practice Assignment Preview: Chapter 9 – Nonverbal and Visual Communication

This week’s assignment focuses on the power of what isn’t said—body language, slide design, and visual storytelling. Students will use AI to evaluate and revise visual and nonverbal communication elements, improving clarity, engagement, and delivery in professional settings.

    Learning Objective

    Students will:

    • Use AI to analyze and improve visual and nonverbal communication
    • Refine slide design and presentation delivery strategies
    • Apply design and body language principles to enhance message impact

    Assignment Flow

    1. Explore Nonverbal and Visual Strategies with AI
Students will prompt an AI tool to explain key nonverbal communication elements and how visual design can support or undermine a message. They’ll critique the AI’s explanation for completeness and alignment with chapter concepts.
    2. Revise a Visual or Delivery Artifact
Students will choose between a cluttered slide or a weak presentation delivery and prompt AI to revise it using best practices. They’ll evaluate the AI’s suggestions and reflect on what worked—and what needed human refinement.
    3. Improve the AI Output for Real-World Impact
Using Track Changes, students will refine the AI-generated revision to improve clarity, structure, and audience connection. A short reflection will connect their edits to real-world presentation scenarios and nonverbal strategies.
