Module 11: Job Attitudes

Two individuals engaged in paperwork at a table. One is standing, holding a piece of paper and wearing a hat and work clothes. The other is leaning over the table, writing on a piece of paper with several documents spread out.

Description: This module examines key workplace attitudes including job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and employee engagement. Students will explore how these attitudes develop, what factors influence them, and how they relate to important outcomes like performance, turnover, and absenteeism. The module covers both the measurement of job attitudes and interventions to improve them.

Why this Module is Important: Job attitudes are powerful predictors of workplace behavior and organizational outcomes. Understanding what creates positive attitudes helps organizations retain talent, improve performance, and create more satisfying work experiences. This module teaches students how to assess and improve the psychological experience of work, which is increasingly important in competitive talent markets.

Module Learning Objectives: By the end of this module students will be able to…

  • MLO1: Categorize job attitudes, organizational commitment concepts, and employee engagement factors as key predictors of workplace behavior. (ULO1, CLO1, APA1)
  • MLO2: Evaluate research-based strategies for improving job satisfaction, assess the relationship between satisfaction and productivity, and recommend approaches for increasing organizational commitment. (ULO1, CLO1, CLO2, APA1, APA2)
  • MLO3: Analyze the relationship between job attitudes and attendance behavior through professional discussion and apply attitude principles to workplace interventions. (ULO1, CLO3, CLO4, APA4, APA5)
