Through studying these forces, we develop a deeper understanding of how people navigate between cultural traditions and modern influences.

Unit Learning Objectives: By the end of this unit students will be able to…

  • ULO1: Assess the role evolution plays in universal human behaviors.
  • ULO2: Investigate the role culture plays in creating divergent beliefs across different groups.
  • ULO3: Explain how religion & geography lead to cultural differences.
  • ULO4: Formulate the patterns of acculturation used by members of a culture using Berry’s Acculturation Model.

Why This Unit Is Important: Understanding cultural differences and adaptation is crucial in our diverse world. Mental health professionals use this knowledge to provide culturally sensitive care. International business teams apply these insights to build effective cross-cultural collaboration. Education administrators use this understanding to support international students, while community organizations apply it to serve immigrant populations.
